Deluxe Full Bath

If you’re going to spend all that time and money on a remodel it makes sense to consider dressing it up into a deluxe full bath. The typical budget for a basic full bath remodel is about $7,000 and the deluxe version comes in around $11,000. These numbers, of course, depend on how extensive the remodel is and whether you’re adding on a room or just giving an existing one a major facelift.

You can extend the value of each remodeling dollar with a few tips from the pros:

* Reuse what you can; instead of replacing perfectly good plumbing, use it and save the money saved to upgrade other components.

* Make sure you install ½ in. water-resistant sheetrock on any wall that may come in contact with water or condensation.

* Buy an extra 10 percent of any material, such as flooring or wall tile, that may require future repair or replacement.

* If installing your own floor tile, consider 12 in. square sheets of 1 in. square tiles as they are easier to trim and don’t require a tile cutter.

* Plan your remodel so that all painting can be done at once, saving time and labor.

* To extend the perceived size of a bathroom—as well as its functionality—install a full-length mirror on the back of a door.

* Before starting the remodel, use a level to make sure that all wall and floor surfaces are as level, plumb, and perpendicular as possible.

Remodeling Tips

If you’re installing your own floor tile over an existing subfloor, make sure the subfloor is strong enough to stand up to future use. Consider adding or replacing subflooring and installing waterproof treatments so you don’t have to do the job again.
