Overcoming Problems

Most unfinished basements have “issues” or problems that need to be solved to finish them and make them livable. It may be that the floor is partially or fully dirt. Or there are water stains on the walls—or maybe even standing water on the floor. Or there are pests that need to be eliminated before you can even begin to enter the basement.

Fortunately, other sections of this website will help you solve common basement problems. Alternately, you can call on contractors, exterminators, and cleaning services to help you get your basement ready for finishing. So here I’ll cover three of the primary problems that require solutions before a basement can be finished: floors, moisture control, and drainage.
