A spa is a mineral springs resort, named for the town of Spa in Belgium. However, spa has come to mean a fixture or a room that includes a jetted bathtub (sometimes called a “whirlpool” bathtub) and other amenities for relaxation and therapy. Here are some tips on planning your spa bathroom. * Jetted tubs are heavy and bulky so plan on having extra help when bringing the unit into the bathroom being remodeled. * Seriously consider having a contractor do the actual movement and installation of a jetted bathtub to save injury to yourself or the expensive equipment. * Make sure you protect any installed flooring and cabinets from damage when moving or installing the jetted bathtub. * Verify that the subfloor into which the jetted tub will sit can safely hold the weight of the unit with maximum capacity of people and water.
