Electrical circuit controls include switches and receptacles. Switches allow lighting or other fixtures to be turned on and off. Receptacles (outlets) allow you to plug in or unplug appliances for electrical service. Remodeling Tips How many electrical receptacles can you put on a circuit? Most local electrical codes allow up to eight. Remember that if they are installed near lavatories, bathtubs, or showers they must by GFCI receptacles. Electrical receptacles and switches are relatively easy for do-it-yourselfers to install. That’s because they are standardized. The electrical box was installed with the end of the cable exposed (or you are removing and replacing an existing receptacle or switch). You simply prepare the end of the wire cable and attach it to the new component. Instructions follow later in this section.
