Wall Systems

Once walls are framed and before the insulation goes in and the sheathing goes on, the enclosed systems are installed. These systems include the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.

Remember that you will have an official building inspector come to your remodeling site when called to make sure that you are following local building codes. That means you will stop what you are doing and step aside for the inspector to check progress to that point. Depending on your remodeling job you can expect a few inspections. Typical are a frame inspection of all framing, bracing, and utility rough-ins; a wall inspection after the drywall is installed but before it is taped and finished; and a final inspection for everything else.

The point here is to know at what point these inspections are required and make the appropriate telephone call when you are ready. Don’t continue working. If you sheath a wall before the interior has been inspected you’ll probably have to tear off the sheathing to allow the inspector a view. In fact, you may have to remove all of the sheathing, not just that over the pipes and wiring. So make sure you know what inspections are required and call for them.
