Installing Insulation

Once the wall framing is in place and the utilities (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) are installed you can install insulation in the open walls.

Flexible insulation simply presses into place between studs and is fastened either with staples or by the pressure of a tight fit. Rigid insulation will stand on its own either between studs or, more commonly, attached to the outside of the studs to serve as both insulation and sheathing.

Remember as you install a vapor barrier that it should be installed on the warm side of the insulation. Otherwise it is less effective.
