The floor frame and subfloor are installed or repaired, but they are ugly. Your new bathroom needs new flooring material installed over the subfloor. The choices in flooring materials are broad. You can select vinyl composition tile (VCT), ceramic tile, stone tile, solid hardwood, or laminate wood flooring. You also can install carpeting, but not near the shower or bathtub. Which flooring material is best? The greatest dictators of flooring are where you’re installing it, who is installing it, and your budget. For floor areas that may become wet—in front of the shower, tub, toilet, and vanity—the best choice is waterproof flooring. If you can install it yourself (most materials) you can opt for better quality for the same price. If your budget is tight and your skills limited you may decide that vinyl tile squares are the easiest and least expensive. Remodeling Tips VCT is relatively easy to install in larger rooms, but can be difficult to work with in smaller rooms such as half baths. The problem is maneuvering the cut sheet around fixtures and cabinets. If you are removing all the cabinets and fixtures for your remodel, VCT is much easier to install.
