| Installing Plastic Pipe |
|
Plastic pipe is easier to work with than copper pipe because connections are easier to make. Here’s how: 1. Measure and mark the plastic pipe to length. 2. Cut the pipe squarely using a miter box, hack saw, or plastic pipe cutter. 3. Clean the end of the pipe of debris with an emery cloth. 4. Check to make sure that the fitting snugly fits the pipe. If an elbow is to be set at a specific angle, mark both the pipe and fitting with a pencil to indicate correct position. 5. Apply plastic pipe primer to the fitting as well as to the area of the pipe where the fitting will be installed. Note: Only use a primer recommended for the type of pipe you are installing. 6. Apply the appropriate type of plastic pipe cement to the fitting and the end of the pipe. 7. Assemble the pipe(s) and fitting, making sure you match up any alignment marks (step 4). 8. Firmly hold the assembly for 10 to 15 seconds while the cement begins to adhere.
