The place to start answering this question is at the electrical service panel where electricity comes into your residence and is distributed into various circuits. Each circuit has a circuit breaker or fuse as a safety limit. All the breakers or fuses typically are together in the service panel. Each breaker or fuse has its limit printed on it: 15A (amp), 20A, etc. If whatever is plugged into that circuit draws more than its limit of power the breaker or fuse will stop electricity flow to the circuit. Breakers can be reset, but fuses require replacement. Remodeling Words A circuit breaker is a safety device used to interrupt the flow of power when the electricity exceeds a predetermined amount. A fuse is a safety device for electrical circuits that interrupts the flow of current when it exceeds predetermined limits for a specific time period. Two popular types are cartridge and screw-in fuses. Unlike a fuse, you can reset a circuit breaker.
