* What changes do you expect in the needs of users over the next few years?
* Will this room serve as the primary bathroom for the entire house, one area of the house, or just one bedroom? * Do users need a place to relax such as in a whirlpool bath or with a stereo system? * Are group members frequent bathers that will need additional towel storage? * Do group members prefer total privacy when using any of the room’s services or are they willing to share for some? Which? * Is instant hot water needed for washing and shaving? * Does bathroom storage require safety locks for children or for personal privacy? * Is better lighting needed? * If you could move this bathroom anywhere in the house, where would it be most convenient? Some of these questions may seem silly, but answering them can help you design the best plan the first time. For example, depending on your living group and the number of other bathrooms, a shared bathroom in the hallway may serve as the main bath or shower, but household members may use one of the other bathrooms for the toilet and primping. An elderly group member may need special equipment, easier access, or a bathroom closer to the bedroom. Think of the bathroom first as a service center rather than just a room to redecorate. Make sure it’s functional first.
