A modern toilet only has one or two major components. A two-piece toilet has the bowl (lower) and tank (upper back). A one-piece toilet combines the two into a single unit, making it more efficient but heavier to move. All the flushing mechanism is inside the tank. Remodeling Tips One of the earliest manufacturers of bathroom fixtures and fittings was Thomas Crapper. Really! In fact, the Thomas Crapper Company has built fixtures for English royalty and commoners for more than 140 years. The American slang word “crapper” was coined during World War I as doughboys used toilets with the manufacturer’s name on the door. The British prefer the term “water closet.” Many American designers use the acronym “W.C.” to designate a bathroom on building plans. Bathrooms are universal.

The modern toilet is relatively efficient and they really don’t vary much in size and requirements from model to model. They are standardized. They may operate slightly different, but their function and process are about the same for all models. That’s good. It means that replacing a toilet also is standardized. They aren’t tricky to install, just heavy.
