HVAC Tools

The tools you need depend on the job you’re doing. If you are retrofitting an old heater or exhaust fan with a new one you may only need basic tools: screwdrivers and wrenches. If you are installing a new unit where there wasn’t previously one you will need a small saw (keyhole, saber, reciprocating) and a hammer at the least.

If you are installing a stand-alone gas heater you will need many of the tools and materials used for water systems such as pipe and plumbing tools. It’s best to leave gas system installations to a professional. If you want to do it yourself make sure the appliances you purchase have thorough instructions and you review Bathroom Plumbing. Be aware that building codes have different material requirements for pipes that distribute gas than they do for those that distribute water.
