| Installing a Shower Head |
|
Shower valves are installed just as those in a bathtub. The hot and cold valves or a single mixer valve is installed on the end of the appropriate pipe. Shower heads are simply faucet spouts. Some have additional controls to regulate the spray. In any case, they are very easy to install. The process is simply to thread the head on to the supply pipe extending from the wall (added during rough-in). Remember, however, that many shower heads are made of relatively brittle materials. Wrap the end of the pipe with plumber’s tape for a tight seal and don’t over tighten the head when you install it.

Shower controls include the valve(s) that manage the mixture of hot and cold water to the shower head. If the shower is part of a bathtub the controls typically will be the same for both with a diverter valve that selects whether water goes to the shower head or the bathtub spout. Most tub/shower diverters are built in to the bathtub spout so there is no additional installation.
