| Installing a Lavatory Faucet |
|
Fortunately, most lavatory or sink faucets are sold in packaged kits with all the components, instructions, and even specialized tools included. To make the job easier, some include instructions on the back of the package to show you how they are installed—good information to have before you buy. Here are the typical steps to installing lavatory faucets: 1. Install the shutoff valves on the hot and cold pipes. 2. Place the faucet on the sink or counter to verify alignment in the holes. If there are no holes, measure and cut them into the countertop before proceeding. 3. Install the faucet in the mounting holes using provided gaskets or plumber’s putty. 4. Attach the faucet(s) to the countertop or sink with provided locknuts. 5. Install supply lines from the shutoff valves to the underside of the faucet, tightening them against leaks. The process is a little more complicated if there is a separate hot water valve, cold water valve, and spout, but these general directions will guide you. The job is still relatively easy, especially if you plan to take your time.
