Wallpapering

For instant decoration, apply wallpaper to bathroom walls along side or instead of paint. Wallpapering used to be a difficult job that required finesse and a few @#&*% words. Today’s wall covering products are much easier to apply, especially the ones with adhesive already on the back side.

Remodeling Tips

If you wallpaper, make sure the materials you select are appropriate for moist areas such as bathrooms. Otherwise colors may run and moisture will seep through the paper, requiring premature replacement.

Preparing for wallpaper means making sure the wall surface is clean, dry, and smooth. Use TSP to clean dirty surfaces. Otherwise, use a vacuum cleaner and a brush to remove any dust particles left over from remodeling your bathroom.

The most difficult part of installing wallpaper is aligning it so that seams and any vertical patterns match up. You don’t want to be able to see the seams.

The wall covering product you purchase will have installation instructions. However, most are installed in the same manner. The first sheet is installed vertically next to an inconspicuous corner such as behind the room’s door. Mark the wall with a vertical starting line and align the paper’s edge to it. Continue around the room, aligning and overlapping each sheet to match the mattern. As you go, carefully cut out around windows, doors, and plumbing and electrical fixtures.
