Installing Accessories

Bathroom accessories include towel bars, mirrors, and frames. Installation of these components is relatively easy.

For safety sake, have someone help you install the mirror, especially if it is large. One person holds the mirror in place while the other measures and marks.

1. Place the mirror against the wall at the approximate location where you want to install it.

2. Use a measuring tape and a level to select the final location for the mirror.

3. Mark the corners of the mirror on the wall, then set the mirror aside.

4. Use an electronic stud-finder to locate wall studs into which the bottom mirror clips can be attached. If studs aren’t conveniently located, install screw anchors into the drywall.

5. Install the bottom mirror clips.

6. Place the mirror on the bottom clips and adjust the side-to-side location of the mirror.

7. Install the top mirror clips directly above the bottom clips.

8. Install the side mirror clips.

9. Tighten all mirror clips for a snug fit.

Towel bars and picture frames are easier to install than mirrors. If possible, install bars and heavier frame hooks directly into wall studs. If there are no studs available at the location where you want to install the accessories, use anchors. Plastic anchor sleeves are used for lightweight accessories. Molly bolts and toggle bolts are better choices for towel bars and heavier frames and mirrors.

There are many other bathroom accessories that need to be installed. However, most are either self-explanatory or come with instructions. For example, a towel bar kit typically includes wall plates, the bar, and mounting screws with instructions for installation. Most kits also include a plastic anchor sleeve for installing the unit into drywall. Good advice: Use toggle bolts and anchors for a firmer installation.
