In home construction, a half bath or partial bathroom is one without a bathtub or shower. It typically includes a toilet and a sink. That’s it! Half baths are popular where space is at a premium, as backdoor bathrooms (“Clean up before you come in here!”), and as guest bathrooms when you don’t want guests to stay long. Half baths are sometimes euphemistically called powder rooms. Remodeling Words Half baths typically are less than 25 s.f. (square feet) in size. For example, a half bath may be 4 ft. X 5 ft. or 3 ft. X 7 ft. in size. It can be larger, but usually don’t contain more than a toilet and a sink unless it also serves as storage. Remodeling a half bath is relatively easy. The most difficult part can be maneuvering inside such a small area. If the sink cabinet is wall-to-wall, remove it may require removing adjacent door trim or other components. The plus side is that there is less surface to paint. Half Baths in the Bathroom Remodeling section of this website thoroughly covers remodeling half baths.
