On the other hand, one of the reasons that society has advanced is the bathroom. Moving it indoors, engineering it for sanitation, using easier-to-clean materials, and adding amenities has made us more sensitive to personal hygiene. We have fewer diseases and pestilences. We live longer, healthier lives because of indoor plumbing. It’s much better than the alternatives and, frankly, we should be thankful. I certainly am! Bathrooms have extensively evolved since the days of public baths.

We in modern society are totally spoiled. A special room—or numerous rooms—dedicated to personal hygiene is a luxury previously only known to potentates. In today’s housing world, anything less than one bathroom for every two household members seems uncivilized.
