How about budgets and costs? How does the typical bathroom remodeling budget break down? Survey says:

* About 21 percent of the typical remodeling budget goes for new cabinets.

* Bathroom appliances account for 15 percent of the typical budget.

* Countertops typically take up about 11 percent of the bathroom remodeling budget.

* About 9 percent of the budget is spent on fixtures and hardware.

* Flooring takes up about 7 percent of the bathroom remodel budget.

* Five percent of the typical bathroom budget goes for lighting.

* Five percent of the budget pays for bathroom design services.

The survey also noted that about 40 percent of the bathroom designers surveyed don’t charge a design fee for their efforts. Those who do typically charge a fee based on the time required. Fewer are paid as a percentage of the job budget or charge a flat fee for all jobs.
