| Installing a Base Cabinet |
|
Here’s how to install the typical bathroom base cabinet: 1. Find and mark the location of wall studs that will be behind the base cabinet. 2. Mark a level horizontal line across the wall at the height of the cabinet. 3. Set the cabinet in place and install shims under the base to level it against the horizontal back line and a level on the front edge. 4. Drill pilot holes and install screws to attach the back of the cabinet to the marked wall studs. 5. Chisel away excess shims that may show. 6. If there is an additional cabinet, abut it to the first cabinet and clamp the faces together then drill pilot holes and install screws to attach the two cabinets. Level the cabinet with shims and attach the back to marked wall studs. It’s really that easy. Depending on the type of cabinets you purchased there may be additional trim to install, such as an end panel. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for doing so; typically this means placing the panel and either gluing or fastening it. If glued you’ll need to apply clamps so it dries flat.
