| Reviewing Plans |
|
No matter who draws up your bathroom remodeling plans, it’s a good idea to have them reviewed by someone else. If you draw them, hire an architect or a contractor to look them over before starting work. They may see some things that you totally missed or weren’t clear about. If you’ve hired an architect, have a contractor check the plans. If you are doing your own work, have the architect explain the plans thoroughly and answer any questions you have on the project. If you call the architect during the weekend when you’re remodeling, he probably won’t answer the telephone. If you’re a true do-it-yourselfer you can opt to take your plans to the local building department for a preliminary plan check. Make an appointment. An inspector may be available to discuss the plans with you and give you some tips on meeting local building codes. Remember, however, that building codes cover health and safety issues. They aren’t the design police. The point here is to make sure that your remodeling and construction plans meet local building codes and don’t have design issues that can dramatically increase costs or reduce your contentment with the results. Make sure that plans are accurate and clear.
