Finalizing Plans

The Bathroom Plans section of this website has brought you to the point of knowing what you can do, what you need, and what it will look like. Too many people become discouraged by not going through this planning process before hearing a big number and deciding that bathroom remodeling isn’t for them. You’re tackling the same question the smart way by getting your facts before you get your figures.

What is it that you actually need before you can put a dollar amount on this remodeling project? You need to finalize your design plans, determine what materials are needed, and figure out who’s going to do the work.

Bathroom Design guided you through designing your bathroom remodel. If you didn’t complete it then, now is the time that you need to finalize those plans. To make an accurate estimate of costs you need to know what goes where and how much time and materials it will take.

You need a set of working plans with enough detail that a contractor could use them to remodel your bathroom while you were on vacation—a novel idea. The contractor shouldn’t have to call you up every few minutes on a Cancun beach and ask where you want the shower or what color the walls should be. The plans need to be that complete and accurate. As mentioned elsewhere, the plans don’t have to be professionally drawn—though it’s not a bad idea—they just need to be a working plan for whomever remodels the room. You’ll also need them for any required building permits.
