| Calculating Labor |
|
As mentioned elsewhere on this website, many professional contractors use experience or time books to help them estimate the time required to perform most remodeling tasks. For example, a remodeling time book or their wholesaler may tell them that it takes 3.5 hours for the typical installation. They then multiply their hourly rate by 3.5 to arrive at an estimate of labor costs for the installation. How much time will it probably take for you, a do-it-yourselfer, to install the same fixture? Unless you have prior remodeling experience with plumbing fixtures, double the time it would take a pro, 7 hours in this example. Why? Because you’re going to have to read the installation instructions first, a task most pros don’t do, and you’re going to work slower and more carefully.
