Selecting a Contractor

Do you need a contractor to make the addition, move walls, or install larger components? Same answer: Maybe. How experienced are you at working with plumbing and electrical systems? Can you read and follow printed plans for the remodel? Do you have the time?

Remodeling Savings

If you’re not in a hurry you sometimes can save as much as ten percent on your bathroom remodel by hiring a reputable contractor who agrees to fit your project around other jobs. Just make sure you have a firm deadline for completing the job and a penalty for not meeting it.

There are all types of contractors, some licensed and some not. However, many states require that anyone you hire to build or remodel a residence have a license. Most licenses are earned with a specific number of years as a journeyman in the trade plus passing a test and paying a fee. In addition, there are different types of contractors. A general building or remodeling contractor typically oversees other tradesmen, called subcontractors, in doing their jobs: plumbing, electrical, heating, etc. The subcontractors also should be licensed for their specialty. Most general contractors also do at least some of their own work. Smaller remodeling companies are one person who can do it all.

I’ll cover hiring the best contractor for the job in Bathroom Experts. For now, keep your mind open to hiring a pro to do the job for you.
