You’re not done yet. The next job is to cover the joints between sheets, called taping. Here’s how it’s done. * Apply a thin layer of drywall compound to cover the seams. * Immediately apply drywall tape along the seam and let the compound dry. * Apply a thin layer of drywall compound to the joint using a wide wallboard or putty knife. * Also fill in drywall nail or screw holes. * Once dry, carefully sand the joint surface smooth. If you wish to add texture to the drywall surface, take a look at some of the products for do-it-yourselfers. Texturing is a developed skill, but these products can make it relatively easy. Basically, wall texturing is a thick drywall compound that is applied in splotches, then wiped with trowel to level out some of the wall surface. Remodeling Tips Professional drywall installers set the sheet in place against a wall, then insert a wedge and fulcrum below the bottom edge to lift and adjust the sheet with foot pressure before nailing.
