| Installing a Water Heater |
|
Depending on the capacity of your home’s existing hot water heater you may want to install an additional hot water heater somewhere in the basement. Under the stairway or in a closet is a good location, though one that is near the new bath and/or kitchen is best. Remember that the hot water heater requires power: gas or electricity. That means you’ll also have to install pipes or wiring to power the hot water heater. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation. Alternately, you can install smaller hot taps below a sink and plug it in to an under-counter receptacle to get nearly-instant hot water. Single units are much less expensive than water heaters—and easier to install. For small bathrooms, a tankless or on-demand water heater is practical.
