It’s time to start painting. Here are some tips to make the job easier. * Paint the ceiling before painting the walls. * Use a trim or chisel brush to “cut in” or paint areas next to moldings and in corners where the roller can’t easily get. * Paint from top to bottom with smooth strokes. * Once you start painting a wall don’t stop until the wall is done so the paint dries evenly. * Use a brush or roller extension when painting a ceiling, or use a safe platform that brings you nearer the surface. * Airless sprayers can make the job go much faster, however they require more skill; practice on an easier job before using it to paint your basement. * Use a paint shield, a flat metal or plastic piece with a handle, to shield adjacent surfaces from paint spatter. * Don’t dip the paint brush more than half way into the paint and let the bristles soak up paint, then wipe excess from the tip. * Wipe excess paint from the roller before lifting it from the pan to minimize dripping and spatter. * Roll paint on the wall in an M pattern about 3 ft. square, then add crosswise strokes to fill the pattern. Having said all that, I’ll tell you about painting specific surfaces. Take a break.
