| Installing Entertainment Systems |
|
If your basement is pre-wired for cable or satellite you have an entrance box that feeds the system. The signal to the box comes either from your local cable provider or from a subscriptions satellite dish mounted on or near your home. Following your building plan, wiring was installed to terminal boxes in various rooms. It’s now show time! Fortunately, connecting these systems is relatively easy once the wiring is run. You can purchase wall plates at Radio Shack or other electronic suppliers. Follow directions with the plate to wire the back side of the plate. Once installed, the appropriate entertainment device can be plugged in or screwed on to the plate face. Remodeling Tips Make sure you purchase the correct plate and connector for entertainment and computer systems. Television systems use F connectors, telephones use RJ11 connectors, coax cable connectors are labeled RG58, and computer networks use RG45 or Cat 5 connectors. Stereo systems can be heard throughout your new basement if you’ve pre-wired it for sound—or if you turn the volume way up. Connecting up the system typically means installing wall plates that include terminals for left and right channels. The wall plate can have a local volume control on it and even be wired for an intercom. As with other systems, these need to be planned in advance of remodeling so that wiring goes to the appropriate locations. The final step is simply installing the wall plate or sound controller/intercom to the wiring.
