If you’re using one of the computer software programs you may already have the tools you need to develop an accurate cost estimate. Many of them, especially the higher-priced programs, include a materials worksheet that lists the materials needed for your basement remodel. Depending on the software you can print out the materials list and visit suppliers for actual costs, print it and give it to suppliers for their bid, or use online suppliers or resources to fill in the costs.

Answering the four questions above served as a reality check to how long you plan to use the basement, whether it is an investment or an expense, how much it could cost, and how you might pay for it. It’s now time to get out of the ballpark and get specific. You need to know more accurately what it will cost for finishing your basement.
